MAKING THEIR MARK!
PLAQUES to commemorate the
community’s involvement in a
£100,000 artwork have been
put up along the People’s
Wall.
The stainless steel plaques
have been installed beside
panels along the wall at
ETEC House, Coronation
Street, Sunderland.
The People’s Wall was
launched in July 2008.
Additional funding from Back
on the Map has enabled ETEC
to pay for plaques so future
generations can see, which
community groups and
individuals contributed to
each panel.
Julie Dyos, ETEC’s
Operations Director, said;
“The wall contains 14 carved
brick panels showing local
people’s vision for the
future of Hendon and the
East End. “Residents and
community groups worked on
etching their vision on each
panel with the help of
artists Josephine Taggart
and Alyson Stoker.”
North East Refugee Services,
East Community Association,
ETEC, Hendon Young People’s
Project, Chance, Hendon
Valley Road School, Hope
Church, Back on the Map,
Hudson Road School, Sans
Street Youth and Community
Centre and the Bangladeshi
Centre were among the
groups, who participated.
The work was funded by New
Deal for Communities Back on
the Map, National Lottery
Awards for All and ETEC.
