ESSENTIAL NEWS!
ETEC
has won a contract to offer
services to children
throughout Sunderland.
The development trust has
been given the Children’s
Essentials Service (CES)
contract by Sunderland City
Council.
The contract, which started
at the beginning of December
2008, means ETEC will be
running toy libraries and
distributing child safety
equipment.
Services in the city are
divided into clusters in the
west, south and east, north,
Washington and Coalfields.
Janet Laidler, Project
Manager, said: “I am
delighted that the council
has shown so much faith in
ETEC by awarding us the
Children’s Essentials
Service contract city-wide.”
ETEC has run the south and
east clusters since 2006
with clusters in the
Coalfields and West
following a year later.
The city-wide contract will
run until 2011 with the
possibility of a further
extension

TOTAL of £39k will be
invested in improving ICT
facilities for ETEC learners
over the next five months.

PLAY
FOR FREE!
TWO,
free courses are running at
ETEC this spring.
The nine-week Introduction
to Playwork and Introduction
to Community Development
Work courses start on 3 and
4 March 2009.
Both courses take place
between 10am and noon at
Hudson House, in Moor
Terrace, Hendon, Sunderland.
Courses conclude with an
evaluation and presentation
event on Wednesday 13 May.
Both courses are free to
people living in Sunderland.
Community Development has
just begun to offer the City
and Guilds Level 4 Higher
Professional Diploma for the
first time.
Qualifications at NVQ Levels
2 and 3 in Community
Development and Playwork
are now available as part of
the Government’s Train to
Gain initiative.

Ceremonies in December and
January.
Scott Docherty was voted
trainee of the month for
ETEC’s Maintenance
Department in December with
Shane Cassidy taking the
honours in January.
Daniel Graham was voted
trainee of the month for the
Routeway Construction
Programme in December with
Chris Watson and Craig
Robinson triumphant in
January.
Mathew Tough was voted
trainee of the month for
Skills for Life in December
with Ian Loughlin taking the
same award in January.
Alan Fuesdale was given the
trainee of the month award
for IT in December.
Colin Todd was acknowledged
as gaining the most
Progression in an
Apprenticeship.
Blaine Rarity and Joe White
were voted trainees of the
month in Community
Decorators in December.
Ashley Croft was voted
trainee of the month in
administration in January.
Matthew Tough, Jordan
Wilson, Chris Lewis and
Anthony Longstaff all
notched up six months’ full
attendance at ETEC.
Michelle Martin, John Newby,

Training for Success.....
ETEC
has retained a prestigious
award recognising its
investment in staff
training.
The development trust has
held its Investors in People
(IIP) status after a formal
assessment on 5 December
2008.
Julie Dyos, ETEC’s
Operations Director, said:
“ETEC is one of only a
handful of companies in the
UK, which has undergone
formal assessment for this
quality mark – and retained
it – on so many occasions.”
ETEC has held IIP status
since 1994.
Just

including a bad taste fancy
dress contest will take
place at ETEC for Comic
Relief on Friday March 13.
