Evaluation of the People into Employment project

PIE evolved from a multi-agency partnership group including Jobcentre Plus, Social Services & the Royal Hospital Sunderland, established 9 years ago in response to an identified gap in provision for employment services for people who were carers or ex-carers.

The PIE Project is situated within the ETEC Organisation and is an independent, impartial and informal project which supports people who want to return to work.

Working in partnership with voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations allows PIE the opportunity to tap into City wide resources to assist you in your quest for employment.

Our aim is to help:
  • Hidden people who are not known to any of the statutory agencies
  • Carers & ex-carers
A carer is someone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour who due to illness, disability, frailty or addiction is unable to manage alone. Carers & ex-carers are a vulnerable group, they may have been away from the labour market for many years. They are effectively ‘hidden’ and are not the subject of any statutory funding programmes. Welfare benefit criteria mean that carers are often required to find employment 6 weeks after their caring role ends.

The things PIE can help you with are:
  • Work Placements and work trials
  • Help with application forms
  • Interview preparation
  • Training can be arranged
  • Guaranteed interviews with some employers
  • Links with other agencies

Funding

PIE is funded by the Working Neighbourhood Fund from Sunderland City Council until 2011. The scheme is known as ‘Just the Job’ which brings together a wide range of organisations from across Sunderland to provide support for residents.

WHAT IS JUST THE JOB?

Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF)

Sunderland has been allocated a share of the national £1.5 billion Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF), part of the government's drive to reduce long term unemployment and benefit dependency now and in the future in our most disadvantaged communities.

The Working Neighbourhoods Fund is a new dedicated fund to develop more concentrated, concerted approaches to getting people in the most deprived areas of England back to work. It replaces the Neighbourhoods Renewal Fund and incorporates the Department of Work and Pensions Deprived Areas Fund to create a single local fund.

Government wants all communities to share in rising prosperity and is determined to break the cycle of worklessness and a lack of economic growth in certain areas. It is part of the radical restructuring of the government's approach to regenerating some of the country's most deprived areas.
